M-62 Belt Fed LMG

Post by CelticSword » Fri Sep 21, 2007 4:40 pm

I just received this email from the editor of Guns & Ammo. Anyone have any info or photos?
Dear Steve:

I'm trying to find out more about the rare m62 (?), belt-fed 7.62x39
LMG/SAW.

My cousin is a Jaeger officer but his English isn't good enough to get
details out of him. I'd like to know more about it if possible. Can you
direct me to a site?

All the best,

Richard Venola

There are a bunch of B&W photos of it in the Finnish book _Sotilaskiaseet Suomessa_. Most of the text is in Finnish but there are English summaries.

I can try to scan it if you want.

That would be great if you could scan it. I am hoping that the magazine may be doing a story on it.

I did find a photo of one:

I have very little data on M62 light machine gun (and I don't know their source), but for what it's worth:

Also, here is what looks like an old cropped photo:

As an aside... I think it's interesting that the more I learn about historic arms, the more I see references to Czech manufactured (designed?) firearms.

Thanks GoodGuy.

Sigurd - please also scan the Finnish text in the book. Perhaps we can get Samppa to translate for us.

translation

Post by Samppa V » Sat Sep 22, 2007 11:45 am

Happy to help with translations if needed.
M62 LMG is the oddest of them all in Finnish inventory, it was "redesigned" from checz MG, to the poorer direction, all the good ideas were dropped from the model to be manufactured, all the bad things were kept
It's the least trustworthy weapon on our inventory, good thing is that it's going to be replaced with the best GPMG in the world, russian PKM, link to more info: http://club.guns.ru/eng/pkm.html

Once Sigurd sends me a scan I will forward the info to Guns & Ammo. They will be putting the info in their surplus arms book.

Steve- try this link if you have not already:

http://www.mil.fi-7.62kk62/maavoimat/ka ... uipment=37

I believe that is a M62 LMG (under R62KK).

Also, I will look through my library of Waffen Revue to see what I can find.

Steve, does not work for me either.

Try:

http://www.mil.fi/maavoimat/kalustoesit ... uipment=42

Also, no luck on the Waffen Revue search.

Here are the pages from _Sotilaskiaseet Suomessa_. Sorry it took so long to post them.

This covers the M60 and M62 LMG.

Translation?

It might be too long to translate completely, but if there is certain questions about it, I'll help out.
