This deactivated original Israel Galil is going to be my platform for Galil-RK62/95 build.
It will use all Galil internal parts, RK62 top cover, RK62 cheese crater hand guard, RK62 gas tube, Lothar Walther stainless 7.62x39 barrel, Galil folding stock, RK62 front sights. RK95 bolt carrier group with slide. Original length barrel is going to be shortened aprox 10cm and gas system aprox 1-2cm.(gas piston and tube) I will post pictures when finished. Estimate February.

Sounds like a great project; could you list all Galil parts that are interchangeable over to a Valmet when you are finished? Photos of the entire transformation, step by step, would be wonderful.

We have deactivated rifles also but most of them are WWII era.
This deactivated Galil is from Germany.

Finally something to show. It's not finalized yet but it's in shooting condition. Smile
The muzzle brake is only for protecting barrel threading. I will attach AR-10 flash hider on it later and silencer.

Total length folded is 57cm. Shortened gas system on it. Aprox 5cm aka 2" was removed from the tube and new gas rod was made.
Trigger guard is still in wrapping. I will attach it later.

If you have any questions feel free to post them here.

It turned out to be very accurate due to LW50 barrel. Very smooth to shoot because of the gas port hole on barrel is only 2.00mm wide. Spent cases are thrown aprox 1.5-2m away. The barrel is .311 and was blank 655mm which was cut half. Wanted to save the spare but gunsmith ruined the first version on milling machine. I got substitute full length .308 blank though.
With AR-10 silencer this is real fun to shoot. Very Happy

I just noticed this winter that gas port size is not enough for winter shooting. Too many ejection failures. I believe I will drill the hole to the size of 2.5mm for the reliability.
