Guys,

I saw a gunshop selling Barnaul .233 Soft Point Steel Case ammunition (1000 pc for 170 / $250)

Example:

Does anybody have experience with this ammo? Escpecially in a Valmet M76?

Some steel cased ammo does not work well in 5.56mm. The case wall is very strait and works more reliably when brass is used. Steel is fine in 7.62x39mm.

Barnaul is good stuff. Don't know if the soft points will feed right in an AK action, especially a Valmet which has a pretty violent feeding process.

Buy a box and try them, you will learn if they work or not.

FYI... I think there's some 7.62x39 Ulyanovsk ammo floating around now too. I received an email promo about it recently, but I don't remember who sent it to me. I think it was in sealed "spam" cans.

I have tried a few rounds (50 or 60 I think) and they work like a charm! Even better groups than S&B .223 (although you won't be happy to stand in the way of the ejected shells...very violent indeed! Shocked )

You're welcome.

Another side effect: this ammo smells funny... but it's cheap and it shoots fine. Not one failure (more than 200 now)!

Yeah apparently th Russkis use old rotten cat urine as a moderator in the powder, all of them smell nasty when you shoot them, but they work just fine and clean up just fine.....

Cabby,

Your right On!!! My parents escaped from Estonia with nothing during the war. The rest of my family was not so lucky. My parents learned English quickly, and worked 7 days a week. They prospered, became citizens and loved the USA. They called themselves American's, not Estonian/Americans and were proud of it.

I was born here, and feel exactly as they did... I am not afraid to say it, The Only Good Russian is a Dead Russian!!!

Patton had it right!!! We screwed up!!!

Eric
