I have a Valmet 78 RR Rec. full auto pre-86 in .223 and I would like to convert it to 7.62x39 and shroten the barrel some where between a 12-16 inchs. I would like to find a AK smith that has done this before. In addition, where I might be able to find a barel to cut down or have one custom made. Thank you, Greg desotoholdings10@yahoo.com

Thank you, but I have already spoken to him and he only wants to deal with standard AK guns

I agree Jeff @ hillbilly firearms has done work for me and he is very good! I was just checking to see if there is any one else I should consider, but I trust Jeff 100% . Most likely I will need to have a barrel made any sugestion on that? Thank you, Greg/ divedeeper

I once spoke to Jeff about this. He performs 7.62x39 conversions and mentioned threading standard AK barrels to fit the Galil receivers. I don't have any details on which AK barrels are preferable to use. I imagine that most any full auto AK bolt would work. The ejector will need to be modified, too, as you know. Please let us know what you find out. I'd be interested in knowing what barrel works best.

As I recall Don's Gun Shop, who I think is out of Florida has done several of the caliber conversions to Valmet full auto's.

Cool I would be very careful before mods were made and contact batf
all my select fire weapon documents list caliber and barrel lengths
you may need to find out if there is way to amend your class 3 lic info so as not to void your current docs

Don Gun Shop is about 1.5 hous south of me and he does good work, but has had a friends gun for about a year. I really do't want to wait 6 plus months to get a gun back. I have always heard he does good work, but I have sent Jeff guns before and and he work is excellent and he gets your guns back in a reasanable amont of time.

Personally, I would not convert calibers--- the 7.62x39 parts are much more difficult to acquire!!! Shocked

Greg, Talin here on this board has some model 78 308 parts for sale here, might be a good alternative unless you have to make the hole in he receiver bigger.
