Will a Galil folding stock fit onto a M62S?

Post by gray » Tue Oct 09, 2012 10:54 am

Writing to ask if anyone knows if a Galil folding stocks will fit onto a Valmet M62S milled receiver without any modification of the receiver? Or does a hole need to be drilled into the receiver as in a M92? Anyone have experience with do that mod?

I found a few photos which show how a folding stock attaches to a Valmet receiver. You can see in the top photo (cropped) of the folding stock there is a sort of tang with a hole through it. Looking at the photos below there is a transverse hole in the rear (side to side) of the receiver with a roll pin through it. I figure that there must also be a slot in the (butt stock) end of the receiver which allows that tang to slide into the receiver, then a roll pin can be inserted to capture the tang of the folding stock.

Here are a few photos; one shows a M62 with a folding stock, one shows a tube stock attached to the receiver using a roll pin, another shows a folding stock model which I don't think was imported into the US, and one photo of a Galil folding stock which shows the tang with the hole that apparently is used to attach the stock to the receiver using a roll pin.

Edit: found a schematic for a Galil folder; it shows how the folding stock attaches to the receiver

Please don't do anything crazy to your M62S like that 5th pic. Try to find a Fidelis Firearms adapter if you can (I don't think they make them anymore), or have a machinist fabricate a similar adapter.

The fourth pic down shows a later Sako M76 which was never available here. The mounting method for the stock is different than the earlier Valmet M62s but identical to the Galils.

I have an Rk 95 folding stock, and it is interchangeable with the Galil. But that won't help you unless you have a Galil or a Sako receiver, or actually modify your Valmet receiver (cringe). The factory Valmet rightside folder is also similar to the Galil.

Thanks for the info; would you have some photos of the Fidelis adapter?

I would like to substitute a Galil type folding stock for the wood stock, don't really want to modify the receiver. Just hard to find anyone who knows how to do the mod correctly.

Very late answer but RK62 tube stock will fit directly to the original Galil receiver and so does Galil folding stock to RK62. I have both tested.

That is good to know. Got any photos of the process of putting a folding Galil stock on a semi-auto milled receiver 62? Any particular model of Galil folding stock or was there just one model?

Does anyone know of a source of folding Galil stocks?

I was using IMI (Israel) Galil folding stock and original FIN army RK62 tube stock (same as civilian version). Sorry no pics.
