CIA Galil Golani

Post by CelticSword » Fri Aug 31, 2012 3:58 am

Ok, I broke down and bought a "cheap charlie" Galil from Century International Arms. Went to shoot it a few months later and it would not chamber the cartridges correctly. The bullet head was striking the middle of the lower section of the breech face. You can see the marks left there by the bullet (photo below).

I contacted CIA and the rep told me that the rifle was out of warranty. After moving up the food chain at CIA and finally letting them know I would add to their questionable rep on various gun boards, they relented and said they would repair it.

I told them that the issue, in my opinion, was that the bullet guide was not set a the right angle. It was set too low. I let them know a change of magazines had not rectified the issue either.

I received the rifle back about 3 weeks later (a few days ago). The repair order said "improved bolt travel", "replaced magazine" and "test fired 30 rounds". No where in the repair order did they address the bullet guide angle. They did mention it but did not change the angle.

I am going to try and get out in the next week or so and see if they in fact rectified the problem or not.

Any takers or whether it will function correctly or not?

Steve,

I have a coin that we can flip!!!
While tempting due to the price, I stay away from these wannabees for these exact reasons.
Hope it functions properly--- cross your fingers--- but not while shooting. :D

I was just looking for something like and old AK throw away. If I can get it tuned right then it will be a fun toy, nothing more.

It may actually be the rail height. Please get me a picture or pictures showing who manufactured the receiver. Also if you can measure down from the top\side of the receiver to the top of the rail. This should be the same as a factory Galil but some are not.

Forgot to report back on the field report. It is running like a champ now. They stepped up to the plate and did their job.

Steve keep your eye out for an original IMI barrel for the future. Most of iswhat is left here are 1 in 12 twist. No problem just use 55 grain ammo.

Copes and Apex have 1-12 and Green Mountain has their own 1-7. Finding an IMI 1-7 is going to tough and the price likely high.
