Just buy some of that MIL SPEC ammo thats out there and made by some of the major companies. I sent some Winchester .308 NATO marked back to a distributor and asked him to exchange it for some Winchester non metallic stuff. Wolf 7.62x39 is another steel jacketed copper plated ammo. The only reason for the copper plate is to stop rust. MIL SPEC looks a lot like LOW BID to me. Be nice to your rifle and buy a magnet. John

Yes I remember when you could get Wolf 7.62 x 39 copper jacket ammo for $5 per thousand more than steel jacket. Now it is double last time I saw some. Since Valmets do not have chome lined barrels and we cannot get replacement barrels it is really important to use copper jacket only in Valmets.

About Valmet barrels, ask Chris at Vulcan Imports, he's got some new ones.

Got weak and ordered some steel core.
I just bought 1000 rounds of 62 gr FMJBT 223 of Fiocchi at $300. From DSG arms

I,m probably going to cut one bullet in half and measure the jacket thickness.
IMO steel core is OK if the jacket is thicker than the rifling grooves.

Just cut up a bullet.
Copper jacket measures .020"

Anyone know how deep the rifling on a 223 barrel is ?
