Eric,
You may also want to check out Buddy Hinton's pictorial library (Valmet section)!!!

Tony,
Based on his photos the shorter pins with the springs appear to be for the
M-76 in .223 Caliber. But nothing there on the longer ones.
Think I got these pins from Chris via you, a long time ago. But I could be wrong!
Must be someone here who has the answer!
Thanks,
Eric

My best guess:
Firing pin 1---
appears to
be the
newer style,
M78 (
based upon
length,
small head, and
longer tapering at the
head)
Firing pin 2---
appears to
be the
original style,
M76 (
based on
larger head,
thin spring, and
shorter tapering at the
head---
thickness at
body should
be 1.62mm---
v. 1.32mm for the
newer)

Any difference in a pin for 223 Caliber or 308?

Firing pin #1 is .308
Firing pin #2 is .223
I had a .308 firing pin and it was longer than the others.
I sold it.
.223 and 7.62x39 are pretty much the same length.

Lets start again!
In the New photo I just posted, firing pin number 1, which is closest to the ruler is the unknown! Maybe 7.62 x 39?
Firing Pin number 2 is definitely a 308. Found that one in box of my stuff and the bag was clearly marked as 308 Valmet.
Firing Pin number 3 with the spring I think we have all agreed is .223 Valmet.
I have 9 pieces of the unknown pin number 1. One piece of pin number 2 the 308 pin with the extractor. And 10 pieces of the .223 in photo number 3.
At some point, I'll start selling them off. My first preference would be on this site. Second would be on GB.
But first I need to know if pin number one is 7.62 x 39 or something else?
Has to be a Firing Pin Expert here somewhere! Please let me know what you think!
Thanks,
Eric

I thought that there were only 2 firing pins, as your first pics were confusing!!!
Let me research more.

Tony,
Yes, in the first pictures there were only 2 pins. To help clear things up I found a 308 pin. So just refer to the last pic with the 3 pins.
Thanks,
Eric
