Is this a Valmet, Galil, or other drum mag??

Post by gray » Fri Jul 05, 2013 12:21 pm

This drum mag sold on GB recently; it was advertised as a Valmet/Galil 223 drum mag.

Anyone have a clue who might have made this; Valmet, Galil, other??
(note: the photos were originally labeled as "Valmet drum mag" just so I could find them in my pictures folder)

EDIT: after much searching and asking around (Thanks to Buddy H) it appears that the drum mag in the photo is most likely a Polytech 223 mag and not a Valmet or Galil.

Polytech 90 round 5.56 drum.
I see I'm putting info out that's already been added!
Anyways, they are well made, I just sold one a couple months back, and if those pics are from the auction I think they're from, that seller is "problematic", think that's the nice way of putting it.

As I recall they have to be modified to work in a Valmet. I think they may have been made by a different co. than Polytech. Is it marked with a triangle?

Unless it's Valmet I would be very reluctant to use it. I have seen photos of IMI Galil drums, but again, nothing for the Valmet.

Based on my knowledge M78 RPK 7.62x39 full auto versions which were exported to arab countries on late 70's were equipped with Valmet drum magazines. Sorry, but that FIN database is not available any more for checking it out.
