Valmet Target Rifle in .22

Post by Remington 700 » Wed Jan 16, 2013 10:20 am

Looking for information regarding my heavy barrel .22 Valmet Target Rifle ( sometimes known as a Finnish Lion ). It's got a thumbhole stock, original target sights but currents wears a scope. Serial number is 6425. Anyone any idea of year of manufacture or background.
Thx :?

The m. 55 USA and Sweden -model was numbered from #5000 to #6200 between the years 1955 to 1956. After this there are no numbers tied to a certain manufacturing year before the year 1959. The model M59 serial number in 1959 ends to 7200 so your rifle is either a M.55 USA and Sweden import model or a m.59 model for Norway markets.

Calculating and guessing would lead me to think that your rifle is an m.55 and made in 1957 for the US markets, since the # on your rifle is so close to the last serial number of 1956.
