The Valmet M78 in .223 seems to be the odd duck of the Valmet world. They are pretty rare compared to the .308 M78's, and about equal in rarity to the 7.62x39 M78's, but they don't seem to be in demand like other Valmets. Possbily because of the scarcity/expense of the magazines or possibly because of the weight/size of the rifle. Most people who want a .223 Valmet don't look at a rifle with a 24" barrel that weighs in at 10+ pounds. $1800 sounds like a pretty fair price for one depending on the number of magazines that came with it. I picked up a unfired in the original box .223 M78 with one magazine for $2000 a while back.

As Dave stated, could be a pretty good deal, depending upon condition and accessories!!!
Congratulations on a unique acquisition. :D

You did fine.
The last one I spotted on the net
3 years ago was new no box and
I purchased that one.
I just need a 76 milled folder in 7.62 x 39. and I swear to GOD I will stop.
