.308 magazines M88 M78

Post by ShinyAtlanta » Tue Jun 23, 2009 8:15 am

I am looking for a magazine for a Valmet Hunter M88. I have been told the magazine for an M78 in the same .308 caliber will not work. Does anyone know how they differ and if an M78 mag could be easily modified to work on an M88?

Magazines for M78 have sideplates welded on, on the upper part of the magazine. This is done for additional strength. Other than this, magazines for M78 and M88 in .308 are the same.
Because of these sideplates, M78 mags are wider and will not fit into M88 magwell.

You can modify M78 mags to work by removing these sideplates. Proper way to do this would be to mill them off, which is not an easy job.

Hope this helps.

M.76 mags will work in most hunters.

The .308 hunters used either the m-76 mags or the .30-06 mags with a spacer.
