PLEASE HELP RANK VALMET'S IN ORDER OF HOW RARE

Post by toysntoys » Sat Apr 11, 2009 7:57 am

HI EVERYONE

I'm not a Valmet expert but, I collect a few guns and would like to know your opinion on how the US imports rank and some estimated import numbers. Here is a list that I can think of but, I'm sure it is not complete so feel free to add as needed.

Did the 62 only come in 7.62x39 and only milled?
62 wood
62 tube - was there a folder?
71 wood - did the 71 only come in .223? any folders?
71 plastic
76 wood - .223, 7.62x39 & 308
76 plastic - .223, 7.62x39 & 308
76 -folder - .223, 7.62x39 & 308
78/s
78 - milled & stamped - .223, 7.62x39 & 308
82

Are the wood stocks for the 62, 71 & 76 the same? Are they interchangable?

Thanks for you input............MARK

I will take a shot at this one!!! :D

1. All M62's are milled.
2. All M71's are stamped and in 5.56x45.
3. M76's and M78's (7.62x39) are rare.
4. Folding (not fixed) tube stocks are usually more desireable.

My prefered order of rarity would generally be: :D

1. M76 (7.62x39) folder,
2. M78 (7.62x39),
3. M78/83S,
4. M82,
5. M62,
6. M71.

Agree with AGG. I was dumb enough to pass on the 76 folder in 7.62x39 back when they were around a grand....but I do have the 78 in 7.62x39.

id agree, ive had at least 3 78's in 762x39 all stamped, never seen a milled one though, only seen 2 76's in 762x39 for sale in the last few years -one milled , one stamped, i see 82's pop up often. the .223's are everywhere. id put the value of the 78 in 762x39 along the lines of the 62/s tube with bicycle grip. ive never really seen any import #'s for valmet, but have heard less than 500 62's,and only a couple hundred 762x39's 76 and 78's.

pretty sure the wood stock is the same on the 76 and 62. only difference if any might be in the buttplate?

I would agree for the most part but the milled 76 wood stock guns in 7.62x39 may actually be the rarest. That is pure speculation since we do not have any actual import numbers.

is the milled 76wood you mention marked as 76/62 or 62/76? ive seen a pic once of one marked like that and wondered if they were marked as such . i think the 76 was electropenciled

Yes those are really rare here. They were made for export to France and maybe Italy. France does not allow guns in current frech military calibers as I recall. I have heard that some of the 222 marked guns were actually .223 guns.

I would think that the wood-stocked/milled 76s in 7.62x39 are just as rare as the tube-stocked milled 76s (although maybe not quite as desireable). Mine isn't model-marked.

Did you forget RK M83S milled version and 95S milled .223 version?
95S .223 versions have been made only 5 and my belief is that they all are located in Finland.
