I have some used barrels up here in Canada I would sell or trade. Two M71 barrels, a .308 M76 barrel, some trunions. Any USA import/DDTC/ITARD/Dept. Of Commerce gobbleygoop would need to be done by the buyers FFL or someone who really knows their shiet.

The worn look is killer. I have not seen a Valmet so rough. The Indians up in Canadas north got a truckload of M78s and M88s from the Feds. I would like see some of those ones. Bet they were not put away and babied like most Valmets in North America.

Looking forward to seeing progress on your build.

It is a M83. That is a M76 in .243.

Looks for your clone aside, I would keep the Valmet mount. With those 3 screws holding it down, that reinforced top cover it is plenty solid. I don't know about the Midwest mount but often side mounts don't end up aligning with the bore and that bothers some people. What does the whole thing looks l...

Perhaps the rears of the receivers were milled in a separate machining operation for fixed or folding stocks at the factory, some point in time after the serial number and/or importer markings are applied to the blanks. From the outside though, it does look like there might be enough material to car...

I would say no. There is not enough metal at the back of a fixed stock receiver to cut a folder receiver out of it.

Polytech Mags

The Polytech .223 30 rounders I had were ground slightly at the back of the feed lips to allow the mag to rock into the Valmet.

Looking at some loose rounds I have here, the 30-06 and 8mm have the same OAL. This gives me hope. Since I am in Canada, ITAR prevents me from bringing a Yugo M76 mag in to try without coughing up big. I have converted several 1918 BAR mags to fit (PITA) and wonder if the Yugo mags drop right in.

Far from humble in my opinion. There are folks up here in Canada looking for milled receiver M76 and M78 stocks. Guys that convert their M88 Hunters would love them.
